People's Protection Units (YPG) spokesperson Redur Xelil said on 8 March 2016 that Syrian opposition groups had used chemical weapons on YPG controlled Sheikh Meqsood district in Aleppo.
Sending a message to the coordinating team of the Syria ceasefire Xelil stated:
Ladies and gentlemen of the coordinating team of the ceasefire in Syria,
We hereby inform you that on March 8, 2016 at 15.00, there is shelling with rockets that carry chemical material which we believe to be yellow phosphorous chemical weapon on Sheikh Maqsoud neighbourhood by the Syrian armed opposition factions and battalions coalition (Islamic movement of Ahrar-ash Sham, al-Jabha al-Shameea, Brigade of Sultan Murad, Sultan Fatih battalions, Fa Istaqim Kama Omirt Battalions, Nour ad-Deen Zinki Battalions, 13 Brigade, al-Fauj al-Oal (the first regiment), 116 Battalion and Abu-Omara Battalion), and still the shelling is being done at the moment of writing this report".
At least 17 civilians were killed and 23 injured in attacks on Sunday 6 March.
