ANF - Amed
The martial lockdown and siege of Amed's (Diyarbakir) historic Sur district continues today for the 95th uninterrupted day. State forces continue attacking the beleaguered area, where there are thought to be over 200 civilians stranded in houses, with artillery and tank shells.
There are fears of imminent massacre like in Şırnak's Cizre district, where at least 178 people were executed and burned to death by state forces while awaiting evacuation from basements.
Attacks by state forces and clashes with Civilian Protection Units (YPS) have intensified mainly in the Savaş and Hasırlı neighborhoods since early this morning. Both neighborhoods are being targeted with intense artillery and mortar fire. Some houses were demolished in attacks but no immediate information was available as to whether there are any casualties.
The relatives of trapped civilians continue their wait for evacuation and have stated that they have had no contact with the people inside since yesterday noon.
A total of 44 people, including 19 children and baby Elif Su, who were evacuated from Sur last week are still being held in custody. These include wounded people in urgent need of medical aid.
