Turkish Interior Minister Efkan Ala has stated that military operations will begin in Hakkari's Yüksekova (Gever) district, Mardin's Nusaybin district and Şırnak city centre.
Responding to journalists' questions Ala said, "Wherever there are barricades they are going to demolished. Turkey is determined to do this. There are barricades and trenches in some neighbourhoods of Şırnak city centre, Yüksekova and Nusaybin; we are going to clean up these areas."
Stating that preparations had been made for military operations Ala said, "Sometimes a day or two before and sometimes on the same day, local officials are informing citizens that operations are going to take place. Operations only take place after preparation is finalised. We are going to inform our citizens in the same way and declare curfews before beginning operations."
It was reported that 80 tanks were transferred to Yüksekova recently as well as thousands of special forces policeman and soldiers. Many people are thought to be leaving the district for fear of death.
Hundreds of civilians have been killed by state forces since July 2015 when martial lockdowns and sieges of Kurdish districts began. Despite overwhelming evidence government and state officials including Prime Minister Davutoğlu and President Erdoğan have refuted claims that any civilians have been killed.
