In a joint statement by HDP Co-chairs, Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag, the Brussels attacks were condemned and a call was made to unite against “attacks against humanity”.
‘International solidarity is important’
In the statement the Co-chairs said, “We are sadly witnessing increasingly unmerciful attacks by ISIS and its counterparts. We would like to declare that in these difficult days we stand by the people of Belgium and Europe, and share their pain. We would like to once again emphasise the importance of international solidarity in the face of this pain and suffering”.
‘Governments that support these terrorists are also responsible’
The Co-chairs continued, “It is clear that there needs to be a better level of solidarity against ISIS and its counterparts who are committing crimes against humanity throughout a wide geography. That fact that these organisations can so easily carry out these attacks shows us that there are governments that support these organisations, which makes them responsible”.
