PKK Executive Committee Member Duran Kalkan has assessed developments in Lice and Meskan, condemning the AKP's attacks on the people, saying: "Those sadists who are threatening our patriotic people and opening fire on them must realise that if they insist on doing this they will be called to account. They must re-consider what they are doing."
Duran Kalkan spoke on Sterk TV on a programme to be broadcast tomorrow evening (Monday). In the interview, Kalkan evaluated the recent resistance, particularly in Lice and Meskan, saying: "the historic, heroic resistance of the struggle in the Amed-Bingol area and in Hakkari has led the AKP government to plead with Leader Apo and our people."
"It is evident that as the struggle develops steps will be taken towards the democratisation of Turkey and a solution of the Kurdish question. We believe that as progress is made our people will consolidate their resistance to achieve democratic autonomy, the freedom of Leader Apo and a solution of the Kurdish question. So we say the struggle must go on. The people must therefore step up their struggle everywhere, using creative methods and taking care to frustrate the chicanery of the other side."
Lice and Meskan should not be isolated
Kalkan stressed the importance of spreading the struggle throughout Kurdistan, even as far as the big cities of Turkey. Lice and Meskan, which have become the spark, should not be isolated. We say to the AKP government: 'your threats and oppression cannot stop the Kurdish people. You must listen to and accept their demands. There is no alternative.' This is the only conclusion to be reached."
If they insist on attacks, they will be called to account
Kalkan warned the government, saying: "Those sadists who are threatening our patriotic people and opening fire on them must realise that if they insist on doing this they will be called to account. They must consider what they are doing. If they carry out even the smallest massacre, it will be dangerous for them. They must realise this and act accordingly. We as the PKK and the Kurdistan Freedom Movement take this opportunity to pay homage to the resistance of our people at this historic time, saying we will maintain this resistance and make 2014 the year of freedom for Leader Apo and Kurdistan."
