The President of the Kurdistan Regional Government Massoud Barzani met with United States Army General Martin Dempsey today in Erbil.
The meeting, that started at 7.00pm local time, was attended by Prime Minister Necirvan Barzani, Barzani Security Agency consultant Masrour Barzani, Interior Minister Kerim Sengali, Peshmerga Minister Mustafa Seyid and other officials from the KRG and Dempsey was accompanied by US ambassador to Iraq Stewart Jones and other military and political officials.
According to the official website of the Kurdistan Region Presidency, in the meeting Demsey thanked Massoud Barzani for the efforts of the Peshmerga in the coalition.
Dempsey shared his condolences with the families of the martyred Peshmergas and said that their sacrifice and service was very valuable.
The US Army General said that his visit was intended for an analysis of the situation on the ground, and to ask for Massoud Barzani's thoughts on the fight against ISIS.
Massoud Barzani told Dempsey that terrorism could not only be defeated militarily, but had to be fought against politically, ideologically and economically. Barzani also said that the terrorists should not be allowed to exist in Iraq and Syria.
In the meeting the sides discussed the latest situation in Kobane and the role of the Peshmergas that were sent there over ten days ago.
