In a live interview with Haberturk TV aired tonight, Selahattin Demirtas announced that he would, in all likelihood, be presented as the HDP's presidential candidate for the upcoming presidential elections; which will, in itself, be a first in the political history of Turkey.
Answering questions on the upcoming presidential elections, Demirtas said that he would not "refrain from responsibility" if selected as the HDP's presidential candidate. Demirtas also said that the CHP's and MHP's joint candidate, Ekmelledin Ihsanoglu, was no different in mentality and political vision with that of AKP's highly probable candidate, Prime Minister Erdogan. To this end, Demirtas said "The people of Turkey will in actuality have to decide between two political visions. The status quo upholding visions of Prime Minister Erdogan and Ekmelledin Ihsanoglu, and the people's libertarian alternative of whoever the HDP selects as their candidate."
Both the AKP and HDP, who are yet to officially announce their presidential candidates, will most likely make official presentations of their respective candidates by the end of this week.
