Reports on social media from people in Hakkari's Yüksekova district are claiming that Turkish state forces have used chemical weapons today leaving 40 people dead.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Van MP Lezgin Botan has also said that they received reports of chemical weapon use in Yüksekova between 10:00-11:00 this morning.

A witness of the incident who wanted to remain anonymous said:

"State forces had something I couldn't make out in their hands. They were wearing gas masks and bags on their backs. They fired a yellow chemical. They were firing this yellow substance into areas where YPS fighters were. The corpses of YPS fighters looked like they had melted and frozen. They carried around 40 corpses to a house."

Clashes between state forces and Civilian Protection Units (YPS) have been ongoing in the district for more than a week. Hundreds of civilians are also thought to be under state bombardment in the besieged town.
