9 Peshmerga killed while defending Kirkuk

It has been reported that an attack was carried out by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) gangs on a town east of Kirkuk this morning in which 9 peshmerga fighters lost their lives.

According to PUK media reports obtained from the general of the peshmerga forces in east Kirkuk, Westa Rasul, clashes took place between ISIS gangs and Besir villagers in Taze town this morning around 04.00.

It was also reported that many villagers who were trying to recapture their villages from the ISIS gangs and villagers from Semziye and Meriye have been murdered and many others were wounded by ISIS gangs during the clashes.

After this attack, ISIS gangs carried out an artillery attack on peshmerga positions deployed at reservoirs in Taze Town in which 9 peshmerga fighters lost their lives. Peshmerga forces repulsed the attack and clashes continued until 07.30. It is reported that the area is now quiet.
