PKK says it downed Turkish army helicopter killing 13 high ranking military officials

The armed wing of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) the People's Defence Forces (HPG) has released a statement saying its fighters downed the Turkish cougar type helicopter in Kurdish Sirnak province on 31 May.

13 high ranking Turkish military officials died in the incident in Sirnak's Uludere district, including the commander of recent operations against PKK fighters, Aydogan Aydin.

The Turkish army, media and officials had claimed the helicopter crashed after striking electrical wires.
