Kurds launch social media campaign for no-fly zone over Rojava

Kurdish activists on social media launched a campaign on Twitter calling for a no-fly zone over Rojava, northern Syria after Turkish airstrikes killed 20 YPG-YPJ fighters on Tuesday.

The campaign #NoFlyZone4Rojava was endorsed by the YPG as several Kurdish military and political officials also made the same call to the international community.

Protests by thousands in Rojava also made the same call, holding placards calling for action against the Turkish agression.

The hashtag #NoFlyZone4Rojava trended in the top 10 in Turkey, Germany and Sweden Twitter trends, activists told KQ.

People from as far as Japan and the United State joined the campaign, which began at 18:00pm (GMT) and lasted until midnight, and is expected to continue.

Democratic Union Party (PYD) co-leader Salih Muslim also joined the campaign with the tweet:

This war by Turkish Sultan targeting all Kurds everywhere, #NoFlyZone4Rojava

Other notable tweets were:

#Kurds win either way. If #Erdogan continues air strikes, NFZ has to be implemented, if he stops strikes, Kurds advance. #NoFlyZone4Rojava

@UNHumanRights Please support a #NoFlyZone4Rojava b/c without it Turkey will continue targeting Rojava to sabotage any attempt 2 build peace

Amid #Turkish strikes on Syrian #Kurdish militia which killed 12 female #YPJ & 8 #YPG fighters; a no-fly zone is demanded: #NoFlyZone4Rojava

#NoFlyZone4Rojava would allow Syrian IDPs to remain in their homeland & give them a safe haven + the #EU could tell Turkey to get lost

#NoFlyZone4Rojava Just as a no fly zone protected Kurds from Saddam's planes, a no fly zone today will protect Kurds from Erdogan.

Rojava fights ISIS barbarians for humanity. To avoid bombardment by ISIS-ally Turkish Erdoğan, #NoFlyZone4Rojava
