Kurds gather in Strasbourg to protest PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan's capture

Thousands of Kurds from across Europe are gathering in the French city of Strasbourg to attend a mass march and rally to condemn the the capture of PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan on 15 February 1999.

Kurds from France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, Austria and other countries arrived in Strasbourg on buses.

The crowd gathering at the Boulevard de Metz next to the Strasbourg's Central Train Station (Gare Centrale) is expected to start the march at 10:00.

Dozens of internationalist supporters of the Kurdish movement marched from Luxembourg to Strasbourg over the past ten days and arrived in Strasbourg yesterday to attend today's demonstration. Protestors are calling for the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) to have Ocalan's isolation lifted and for the Kurdish leader's freedom.

Ocalan was illegally abducted following what many claim was a joint CIA-Mossad-MIT operation in Kenya. Kurds call the abduction, an "international conspiracy" against them.
