Hundreds of Civilians Killed by Turkish Security Forces During Curfews: Human Rights Organisations

Turkey's Human Rights Association (IHD) and Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TIHV) have released a joint report on the human rights violation in the country.

In the section related to the Kurdish question the reports says at least 1 million 671 thousand people were denied basic rights in the period from August 2015 to August 2016.

According to the report 111 official curfews were declared across 9 provinces and 35 districts in the country's Kurdish region since the summer of 2015.

The curfews and clashes also resulted in the death of hundreds of civilians by state forces. At least 202 civilians were killed in their homes or in closed-off areas while 321 civilians were killed during the curfews between 16 August 2015 to 2016. Five hundred thousand people were forcibly displaced.

HDP, DBP ve HDK’ye yönelik operasyonlardan yaklaşık 15 bin kişi gözaltına alındı, 5 bin 600 kişi ise tutuklandı.

The report also says close to 15,000 people have been detained in operations on the leftist pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), Kurdish Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and the Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK). At least 5,600 people have been imprisoned including 12 parliamentarians from the HDP.
